Shelley Jameson, soprano, began her vocal career as a managed opera singer by Edgar Vincent/Patrick Farrell and Associates. She sang leading roles in major opera houses both nationally and internationally including: Teatro Municipale in Santiago Chile, The National Theater of Japan, The Bolshoi in Moscow, Los Angeles Opera, New York City Opera and New York City Opera’s National touring company, Pittsburgh Opera, Virginia Opera, Arizona Opera, Connecticut Opera, Kentucky Opera, and Sarasota Opera. She has also sung a broad range of concert repertoire at notable venues including: Carnegie Hall and David Geffen Hall in NYC and Mark Taper Forum Theater in Los Angeles. Her opera roles include: Violetta in La Traviata, Musetta in La Bohème, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Gilda in Rigoletto, Norina in Don Pasquale, Marguerite in Faust, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Lauretta in Gianna Schicchi, the title role in Suor Angelica, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Baby in Ballad of Baby Doe, Hannah in The Merry Widow, and RosaIinda in Die Fledermaus.
As a former Artist-in-Residence of voice and Opera Workshop Director at Nyack College in Nyack, New York Shelley co-founded the Opera Workshop with Joel. Shelley’s role with the workshop was producer, stage director, and coach for all singers in leading and secondary roles of annual full productions from 2006-2018. These operas included Carmen, La Bohème, La Traviata, Suor Angelica, Il Tabarro, Gianni Schicchi, Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, and Merry Widow. Shelley also taught private voice lessons to singers from musical backgrounds that included: musical theater pop, gospel, and Chinese folk music.
Currently, Shelley and Joel are co-founders of Jameson Vocal studio which strives to help singers of all backgrounds including: opera, broadway, pop, R&B, and folk, to develop a singing technique that will help them to sustain long and healthy singing careers. “We teach our students to use their voices correctly, live a healthy lifestyle, and pursue healthy relationships. Because your body is your instrument, everything that affects your body affects your voice. This is why we take an overall holistic approach to help singers develop a solid vocal technique. We have been trained to rehabilitate damaged voices but we would rather prevent problems before they start.”
Shelley studied voice with Dodi Protero, voice teacher at Academy of Vocal Arts, at her NYC vocal studio, and Dr. Tom Cleveland, retired Director of Vocology at Vanderbilt Voice Center and Professor of Otolaryngology Medical Center School of Medicine Vanderbilt University Director, at the University of Southern California.
She received her BM degree in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, her MM degree in Vocal Arts and Performance from the University of Southern California, her Artist Diploma in Professional Opera Studies from Duquesne University for completing the Young Artist program at Pittsburgh Opera, and a Professional Certification for completing the Opera Music Theater International, young artist intensive 2-year training program, for opera and musical theater performers directed by Metropolitan Opera Bass, Jerome Hines.
