Jameson Vocal studio would like to help you strive to achieve your highest potential in becoming the singing artist you are meant to be. We want to provide you with a strong and solid vocal technique through a positive and supportive approach, that can sustain your voice throughout your entire career. We are comfortable training voices that are at all levels of development. Although we specialize in the training of the emerging operatic artist through the bel canto tradition of singing, we are also highly trained in vocal rehabilitation and are comfortable teaching all levels of singers in all musical styles. Shelley Jameson

Shelley Jameson, soprano, began her vocal career as a managed opera singer by Edgar Vincent/Patrick Farrell and Associates.  She sang leading roles in major opera houses both nationally and internationally including: Teatro Municipale in Santiago Chile, The National Theater of Japan, The Bolshoi in Moscow, Los Angeles Opera, New York City Opera and New York City Opera’s National touring company, Pittsburgh Opera, Virginia Opera, Arizona Opera, Connecticut Opera, Kentucky Opera, and Sarasota Opera.  She has also sung a broad range of concert repertoire at notable venues including: Carnegie Hall and David Geffen Hall in NYC and Mark Taper Forum Theater in Los Angeles. Her opera roles include: Violetta in La Traviata, Musetta in La Bohème, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Gilda in Rigoletto, Norina in Don Pasquale, Marguerite in Faust, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Lauretta in Gianna Schicchi, the title role in Suor Angelica, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Baby in Ballad of Baby Doe, Hannah in The Merry Widow, and RosaIinda in Die Fledermaus.

As a former Artist-in-Residence of voice and Opera Workshop Director at Nyack College in Nyack, New York Shelley co-founded the Opera Workshop with Joel. Shelley’s role with the workshop was producer, stage director, and coach for all singers in leading and secondary roles of annual full productions from 2006-2018.  These operas included Carmen, La Bohème, La Traviata, Suor Angelica, Il Tabarro, Gianni Schicchi, Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, and Merry Widow. Shelley also taught private voice lessons to singers from musical backgrounds that included: musical theater pop, gospel, and Chinese folk music.

Currently, Shelley and Joel are co-founders of Jameson Vocal studio which strives to help singers of all backgrounds including: opera, broadway, pop, R&B, and folk, to develop a singing technique that will help them to sustain long and healthy singing careers. “We teach our students to use their voices correctly, live a healthy lifestyle, and pursue healthy relationships.  Because your body is your instrument, everything that affects your body affects your voice.  This is why we take an overall holistic approach to help singers develop a solid vocal technique.  We have been trained to rehabilitate damaged voices but we would rather prevent problems before they start.”

Shelley studied voice with Dodi Protero, voice teacher at Academy of Vocal Arts, at her NYC vocal studio, and Dr. Tom Cleveland, retired Director of Vocology at Vanderbilt Voice Center and Professor of Otolaryngology Medical Center School of Medicine Vanderbilt University Director, at the University of Southern California. 

She received her BM degree in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, her MM degree in Vocal Arts and Performance from the University of Southern California, her Artist Diploma in Professional Opera Studies from Duquesne University for completing the Young Artist program at Pittsburgh Opera, and a Professional Certification for completing the Opera Music Theater International, young artist intensive 2-year training program, for opera and musical theater performers directed by Metropolitan Opera Bass, Jerome Hines.

Joel Jameson

Joel began his professional career as a managed opera singer, became Associate Professor, Head of Vocal and Choral music, and currently co-owns Jameson Vocal Studio with his wife Shelley.   Joel and Shelley serve as co-Artistic Directors of BRAMASOLE, the Vocal Training and Performance Institute division of JVS.  Jameson Vocal Studio embodies a comprehensive, holistic approach to the art and science of singing that teaches and prepares individuals for successful professional singing careers.  “I had the privilege of working with many of the golden-age singers during my training years.  These great singers and teachers taught me the wonderful bel-canto tradition of singing and teaching.” Bel-canto training focuses on tremendous breath management and support, supreme legato line, and effortless singing thru solid, long-lasting vocal technique.  JVS offers students the best chance at a long and healthy career and is open to any and all serious singers who want to learn a technique that will sustain them through the demands of today’s singing careers.  Joel works with all types of singers including: opera, pop, broadway, R&B, and folk.  One of Joel’s pop students, Audrey Nuna, is an emerging artist signed with Arista Records under Sony Music Entertainment.

Joel has performed bass operatic roles in major opera houses including:  Houston Grand Opera under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, Pittsburgh Opera, Minnesota Opera, Sarasota Opera, Cleveland Opera, Opera Festival of New York, Opera North Carolina, and the Caramoor Festival in Katonah, NY.  His roles include Ramfis and the King in Aida; Sparafucile in Rigoletto; Padre Guardiano in La Forza del destino; the Friar in Don Carlo; Wurm in Luisa Miller; Dr. Grenvil and Marquis in La Traviata; Sarastro in Die Zauberflote; Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro; Leporello, Il Commendatore, Masetto in Don Giovanni; Colline in La Boheme; and Ralph in La Jolie de Perth.  Joel also has performed a wide range of concert repertoire including his Carnegie Hall debut with the New England Concert Ensemble as a Bass soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass.

As a former Associate Professor of Music, Chair of Vocal and Choral departments at Nyack College in Nyack New York, Joel co-founded the Opera Workshop with Shelley.  Joel served as the Musical Director, Principal conductor, and vocal coach for all roles and chorus of annual full productions from 2006-2018.  Operas include:  Carmen, La Bohème, La Traviata, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi, Il Tabarro, Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus and The Merry Widow.  

As Director of Choral Music, Joel conducted the Chorale in multiple annual performances.  He founded the Nyack Civic Orchestra and Civic Choir that performed in major concert and orchestral works including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.  He had the privilege of conducting the Chorale in four separate concerts at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center, New York.  

Joel also founded the Chamber Singers, a 16 member a cappella choral group that performed on annual choral concerts and national/international tours.
