Practice Time

In our vocal studio we have many students that have to work “Day Jobs.” They often ask us when is the best time to practice.  One student in particular had a concern because she works a job that is demanding on her voice in that she speaks a lot during her shift that run from 2:00-11:00 at night.   She questioned whether she should practice during her dinner break, which was 4 hours into her shift, or should she practice before her shift started.  We suggested that she practice before her shift because her voice would be then be properly “warmed up” and she would definitely be speaking in a better range.  If she was vocally tired from having been speaking nonstop for hours, her practice time would not been very effective.  Always remember to give yourself the best outcome for the time you spend on your voice.
